Norris Leads Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
Lando Norris has outperformed his teammate at each of the previous five grands prix.
Lando Norris narrowly beat fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the closing stages of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who seized the points lead from his teammate by just one point after winning in Mexico City two weeks ago, topped the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair throughout the hour before the sprint shootout due at 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the other racer in the points battle, trailing with a 36-point deficit Norris, ended up in 17th position as his team ran a different programme.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the only driver to have an incident, albeit lightly, when he lost control at corner four during the early running.
Tsunoda spun out over the track edges before spinning across the escape zone, and was lucky to avoid just a slight brush of the barrier.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also spun, at the final moments of the session, rotating twice through the quick descending corner approaching the final corner on to the start-finish straight.
Hamilton wrapped up in 19th place, just behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were far ahead of the remaining drivers, with the German's car P3, 0.619secs off Piastri's best.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
