222 Premier League Goals, 325 International Appearances

Wythenshawe Veterans Over 35s are located in south the city and compete in the Cheshire Vets League Premier Division.

Their squad list this campaign includes nine ex- top-flight players, with a total nearly 1,800 Premier League games.

The squad include one forward, who netted 37 scores in 117 games for his former club after signing for them for £9m from German league side Freiburg in January 2012.

Ireland started turning out for the team in pre-season this summer through close mate and current Wythenshawe teammate Blake Norton, and the former Republic of Ireland midfielder then asked additional ex-pros, who all compete in a weekly nine-a-side match, to participate.

Ex- Senegalese forward Niasse, who scored twelve goals in sixty-five top-flight games for the Toffees and even now goes to their matches at Goodison Park, also made his first appearance versus the opposition - who are based in the city and use an Everton training kit as their uniform.

"My mate Stephen Ireland told me 'come and play, it's enjoyable'," said the striker.

"After that he informed me we were facing a side from Liverpool and the shock I had when I noticed them wearing Everton kits - I thought this is strange for me!

"When you still enjoy the game and you feel you can still play, wherever you can play, what are you going to choose?

"Those fans who turn up and see are pleased and to give a day if they see us competing there and to pose us questions - it's really about the pleasure of us having somewhere we can play, with structure of course."

Such is the squad depth at Wythenshawe, he made his debut at defender.

"That's a bit different but then, I love running and just go forward - I'm not defending that much," he added.

"I warn my centre-back 'I'm not hanging back' and that I'm just going to keep running.

"The movement is what I'm seeking. It's good fun."

Unreal Experience

In addition to Cisse's six scores on debut, Stephen Ireland has netted eight in three appearances for the side, while George Boyd hit five on his debut appearance and Lescott, a centre-half by position, notched a hat-trick in one game as a striker.

"Our side competed well for a solid 20 minutes but then we had a player sent off and it was tough.

"Our group really have not stopped chatting about it - I was phoning my mum and brother on the journey home.

"They were all really nice, shaking our hands after the match - it was like playing a group of normal guys.

"Now we can't wait for the return match."
